What is a print MIS?

A print MIS (management information system) is the software a print shop runs its business on, from the first quote to the final invoice. It keeps estimating, production, customer updates and billing in one system, so every department works from the same job.

How it compares

Print MIS, web-to-print and accounting software

The three are easy to mix up. Many shops run more than one, with the MIS in the middle.

SoftwareWhat it doesWho uses it
Print MISRuns the shop: estimating, production, proofs, shipping, invoicing and reportingEstimators, production, the front office
Web-to-printAn online storefront where customers order products and upload filesCustomers placing orders
Accounting softwareThe books: ledgers, taxes, payables and receivablesThe bookkeeper

InfusePrint is a print MIS. It isn’t a web-to-print storefront, though web-store orders can be imported through its REST API, and it integrates with QuickBooks Online.

Choosing one

Questions to ask any print MIS

Use these on any system you look at, including ours. The answers tell you whether it fits how your shop actually runs.

  • Does estimating start from the actual sheet layout, including signatures and work-and-turn?
  • Are press and bindery estimates compared with what really ran?
  • Can operators update job status from the floor, and can everyone see it?
  • Can customers approve proofs and check job status without an account?
  • Does it work with the accounting software you already use?
  • Is the price per user, per module or per shop, and is it published?
  • Is there an API, and can AI assistants read your data? Can they change it?
  • Where are customer files stored, and who pays for the storage?

FAQ

Print MIS FAQ

What does MIS stand for in printing?

Management information system. In printing it means the software a shop runs its business on: estimating, production, proofing, shipping, invoicing and reporting in one place.

Is a print MIS the same as web-to-print?

No. Web-to-print is an online storefront where customers order and upload files. A print MIS runs the shop behind it: quotes, production, proofs, shipping and billing. Some shops use both.

Is InfusePrint a web-to-print storefront?

No. InfusePrint is a print MIS. Orders from a web store can be imported through its REST API.

Can I bring my data over from my current system?

Your setup (customers, presses, stock, services and pricing) comes over during onboarding. Open jobs and job history from your old system don’t come over.

Can the AI connector change my data? Is shop data used to train AI?

No to both. The AI connector is read-only: it can answer questions but can’t create, change or delete anything. Shop data is never used to train AI models.

Which shops is InfusePrint made for?

Commercial print shops running sheetfed offset and digital cut-sheet presses. Web (roll-fed) presses and wide format aren’t supported.
